    The 91st National Book Week, with the theme “Tulay ang Pagbasa sa Bukas na Puno ng Pag-asa,” highlights the importance of reading as a bridge to a brighter future. Reading enhances knowledge, critical thinking, and creativity while exposing students to diverse ideas and perspectives. This celebration aims to promote a love for reading, make books more accessible, and inspire learners to dream big. Through reading, students are empowered to build a future filled with hope and endless possibilities. JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY LIBRARY FAMILY FEUD Grade 7 students brought energy and excitement to the Library Family Feud, showcasing teamwork, quick thinking, and a love for learning! INKED OUT: BLACK OUR POETRY Grade 8 students showcased their creativity and literary skills in the “Inked Out: Black Our Poetry” activity, highlighting the importance of self-expression through poetry. LIBRARY HENYO Brains are in action! Our Grade 9 participants enjoyed an exciting round of Library Henyo filled with clues, guesses, and laughter. EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEECH CONTEST Grade 9 students in the Extemporaneous Speaking Contest, highlighting critical thinking, confidence, and effective oral communication skills. IMPROMPTU SPEECH CONTEST Grade 10 students in the Impromptu Speech Contest, highlighting spontaneity, confidence, and public speaking skills.

GRADE SCHOOL BOOK HAT MAKING CONTEST Pre-school pupils showcase their creativity through a Book Hat Making Contest, where they design and create colorful, imaginative hats using recycled materials inspired by their favorite books. This fun and engaging activity encourages environmental awareness, promotes self-expression, builds confidence, and nurtures their interest in reading while allowing them to proudly present their unique creations STORYTELLING FESTIVAL: “MGA KUWENTO NG PAG-ASA” Grade 1–3 pupils showcase their talents through the Storytelling Festival: “Mga Kuwento ng Pag-asa,” where they confidently share meaningful stories that inspire hope, creativity, and a love for reading while developing their communication skills and self-expression. SPELLING QUIZ BEE Grade 4–6 pupils showcase their mastery of language in a Spelling Bee Contest, where they confidently tackle challenging words, expand their vocabulary, and cultivate focus, discipline, and a pursuit of academic excellence.

  • SPUP LIBRARY FEATURES DOST-STARBOOKS

    As an offshoot of the partnership between SPUP and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Region II, SPUP Library, through the Knowledge and Information Resource Network (KIRN) features the use of DOST-“Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated KioskS” (Starbooks) effective this school year, 2023-2024. The endeavor advances a digital library system aimed at providing accessible and up-to-date scientific and technological information to the public. On October 06, 2023, the orientation and demonstration sessions were conducted by Mr. Napoleon Medin Jester Babaran, (DOST – Science Research Specialist). He emphasized that Starbooks is a cutting-edge learning resource system and an innovative digital library and knowledge repository. Accordingly, Starbooks provides a vast collection of digital materials, including e-books, academic journals, research papers, multimedia content, and more, covering a wide range of topics and disciplines. Its user-friendly interface and advanced search capabilities make it a valuable tool for students, researchers, educators, and lifelong learners. During the demonstration, SPUP librarians and personnel were guided through the process of accessing Starbooks, which can be done through various platforms, including web browsers, mobile apps, and offline versions. They were also given hands-on experience in navigating the Starbooks platform and were led through the user-friendly interface, learning how to search for specific resources and access materials for various academic disciplines. Moreover, they were shown how to use advanced search options to find relevant materials quickly, making it accessible to both educators and students.

  • SPUP-KIRN LEADS NAT’L BOOK WEEK CELEBRATION

    89th National Book Week Celebration Theme: READ. REREAD. RELIVE November 20-24, 2023 National Book Week plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of reading and appreciation for literature in society, benefiting individuals and communities by expanding knowledge, stimulating creativity, and promoting cultural diversity. This annual celebration of the written word is a testament to the enduring power of books and the joy of reading. The KIRN Director, Dr. Rosalinda Tanguilan opened the ceremony with a warm welcome to all attendees, expressing enthusiasm for the month dedicated to Library and Information Science. In her opening remarks, the Director emphasized the importance of libraries as hubs of learning, research, and community engagement. She highlighted the pivotal role that librarians and information professionals play in connecting people with information, fostering a culture of curiosity, and supporting lifelong learning. The Director's inspiring words set the stage for a series of engaging activities planned for the LIS Month. St. Paul University Philippines Knowledge and Information Resource Network (SPUP-KIRN) came alive with a burst of creativity as students gathered for the opening program of the 89th National Book Week with the theme: Read. Reread. Relive. This event, aimed at celebrating the world of literature and information, commenced with a flourish on a bright morning on November 20, 2023, at the Knowledge Development Center. The day started with a delightful “Poetry Writing Contest," which set the stage for an exciting month ahead. Enthusiastic participants from four (4) different departments (SBAHM: Sjenica Enqriquez, SNAHS: Bon Angelo Cabauatan, SITE: Maria Riana Janell Ting, and SASTE: Robin Gabriela Banatao) penned their thoughts and emotions into verses that resonated with the theme of the month: "Read. Reread. Relive." The library was transformed into a realm of inspiration, with pages filled with rhyme and rhythm, showcasing the magic of words. In a moment of anticipation and celebration, Mr. Bon Angelo Cabauatan of the SNAHS Department emerged victorious in the iteration of the contest. His poetic prowess and ability to weave words into a tapestry of emotions captivated the judge and left an indelible mark on the literary landscape. The winning poem not only showcases the talent within the department but also serves as a testament to the power of artistic expression in fostering a sense of community and shared appreciation for the written word. The second activity, “NAME THE NOTEWORTHY,” stands out as a captivating and educational activity designed to engage participants in a delightful exploration of iconic individuals and significant historical events. Participants in this activity embark on a journey of discovery as they put their knowledge to the test, identifying and recalling key figures who have left an indelible mark on history, as well as crucial events that have shaped the course of time. The activity provides an excellent platform for participants to showcase their breadth of knowledge, fostering a sense of camaraderie and friendly competition. Gloria Ilarde and Zey Balisi (SBAHM); Xevi Olivas and Jhon Danver C. Abogado (SITE); Ronnie Ballad and Denise Aquino (SASTE); and Renie Remudaro and Elyka Meryl Bruno (SNAHS) immerse themselves in the challenge and discover the joy of learning through a dynamic and interactive experience. The carefully curated questions prompt reflection on the importance of these noteworthy figures and events, sparking conversations and connections among participants. At the end of the competition, the participant or team with the highest score will be crowned the winner. In this instance, the prestigious title goes to Mr. Ronnie Ballad & Ms. Denise Aquino of SASTE Department. Their remarkable knowledge and quick thinking have set them apart, making them the champions of "Name the Noteworthy." The “PAULINIAN WIZARDS” took place on the third day of the National Book Week activity. It is a riveting and intellectually charged competition that emerges as a celebration of knowledge and quick thinking within the vibrant walls of St. Paul University. The competition is designed to be both competitive and engaging, offering participants a platform to showcase their depth of understanding and familiarity with the academic resources that surround them. Participants from various departments (Kevin Alan & Kirsten Gavino – SBAHM); (Engelbert Ilan & Ryan Paul Carbonel – SITE); (Dave Javier & Lalaine Galiza – SASTE); (Fredrich Binag & Tin Argonza – SNAHS) enthusiastically participate in the Paulinian Wizards challenge, demonstrating their commitment to academic excellence. The event not only fosters healthy competition but also encourages a spirit of camaraderie among students, as they collectively delve into the vast realm of learning. Mr. Engelbert Ilan & Mr. Ryan Paul Carbonel of the School of Information Technology and Engineering (SITE) Department emerged triumphant, showcasing their prowess in the intellectual field. The victory not only reflects the department’s dedication to academic pursuits but also serves as a testament to the high standards of education upheld at SPUP-KIRN. On the fourth day of the National Book Week, the KIRN Scavenger Hunt is a captivating and interactive activity designed to inspire participants to delve into the wealth of resources offered by the library. This engaging pursuit is crafted to not only test participants' research skills but also to foster a deeper understanding of the vast collections available within the library's walls. By embarking on this quest, participants are not only challenged to locate specific items, information, or clues but are also encouraged to navigate the library's terrain, fostering familiarity with its layout and resources. Participants (Ariel Aquino & Kristina Tallud – SBAHM); (Nicole Evangelista & Krystel Lingat – SITE); (Mariam Sedano & Micah Bartolome – SASTE); (Alex Sagario & Charilyn Parcon – SNAHS) engage in the KIRN Scavenger Hunt armed with a predetermined list, set of riddles, or clues that guide their exploration. These prompts direct them to various sections of the library, where they must unearth hidden gems of knowledge. The activity is designed to be dynamic, requiring a combination of critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork to successfully complete the challenge In the spirit of friendly competition, Nicole Evangelista & Krystel Lingat of SITE Department emerged victorious in the KIRN Scavenger Hunt. Their tenacity, collaborative spirit, and adept navigation through the library's labyrinthine shelves earned them the coveted title. The department not only showcased their prowess in research and resourcefulness but also demonstrated the importance of teamwork in conquering intellectual challenges. Marking the end of an exhilarating day, it was time for the most-awaited part: the "Awarding of the Winners." Participants who had excelled in the Poetry Writing Contest, "Name the Noteworthy Activity," Paulinian Wizards Activity, and the Scavenger Hunt were recognized for their outstanding contributions. Prizes and certificates were distributed, and the library resounded with applause and cheers for the talented individuals who had made LIS Month truly special. As the event concluded, it left a lasting impression on everyone present, serving as a reminder of the limitless possibilities that a library and the world of words can offer. With a month full of engaging activities ahead, the library was engaged to be a hub of creativity, learning, and exploration for all who stepped through its doors.

  • BASIC EDUCATION UNIT LEADS NATIONAL BOOK WEEK

    Basic Education Unit's Book Character Parade November 29, 2023 In a vibrant and lively celebration of National Book Week, the Basic Education Unit recently hosted a spectacular Book Character Parade that brought the enchanting world of literature to life. Students transformed into their favorite book characters, creating a lively procession through the streets that captivated onlookers and emphasized the joy of reading. The activity, held on November 29, 2023, showcased the creativity and enthusiasm of the Basic Education Unit as participants donned imaginative costumes representing a diverse array of literary figures. From classic characters like Elsa of Frozen to contemporary heroes from popular young adult novels. The event kicked off with an inspirational message featuring words of encouragement from Dr. John Kit Masigan, grade school program coordinator, emphasizing the importance of fostering a love for reading among the younger generation. Students eagerly embraced the opportunity to embody their favorite characters, and the enthusiasm was palpable as the parade wound its way through the community. The event not only celebrated the rich world of literature but also served as a testament to the school's commitment to promoting literacy and a culture of reading. The Book Character Parade was not only a visual feast but also a testament to the school's dedication to fostering a lifelong love for reading among its students. It was an evident that the magic of literature had truly come to life, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all those who participated in or witnessed this delightful celebration of National Book Week.
