LIBRARIANS CONDUCT KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION RESOURCE NETWORK (KIRN) ORIENTATION WITH FRESHMEN STUDENTS

The Knowledge and Information Resource Network (KIRN) of St. Paul University Philippines successfully conducted its annual College Library Orientation Program from September 16 to 19, 2025. This highly anticipated event was organized to familiarize incoming freshmen with the University library’s wide array of resources, services, and technological tools that support academic excellence and research efficiency. Furthermore, the program emphasizes the significance of the library as an integral part of the academic community, an environment that promotes independent learning, collaboration, and innovation. The orientation is a key initiative of the institution, ensuring that new students are well-prepared with the vital skills and knowledge needed for their Academic experience.

The program began with an opening message from the KIRN Director, Dr. Tanguilan, who warmly welcomed the participants and provided an overview of the KIRN’s, mission, and ongoing innovations. Over 1,415 freshmen students from various Departments participated in the four-day orientation. Sessions were conducted at the Mother Madeleine Hall, which was arranged to accommodate simultaneous group orientations and interactive demonstrations.

The orientation sessions included formal presentations that introduced the students to library sections, such as the circulation area, reference collection, periodical section, and the multimedia and e-resource corners. Librarians demonstrated how to search, borrow, and return books using the library automation system, emphasizing user-friendly access to the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).

Librarians presented the KIRN’s advanced cataloging and circulation system, which streamlines book borrowing and returning processes. Students were also introduced to the various collections of theses, dissertations, research papers, and institutional publications.

The orientation’s approach participation encouraged interactive student throughout the sessions.
